Windows 7 Final: A first report

Today is the day: we write 22 October of 2009. Windows 7 is finally released in stores and is available immediately for purchase for consumers. I had, like many other users probably, before installing the RC, and could not expect it, finally, the final hold in their hands, because: Even the RC was so advanced that with the operating system in nearly 5 months in which I it was installed, not once is greased. I was also one of the lucky ones who had the opportunity to acquire a Windows 7 on sale coupon. That said, I was able to purchase Windows 7 for 50 €. Who can remember: The coupons were limited to 1,000,000 units worldwide. At Amazon Germany, they were sold out within 7 minutes. Fortunately, I had in my local MediMax luckier. Anyway, here is my first report to Windows 7 The whole thing started with the first consideration: Schmeißte your old XP also down, or you install Windows 7 parallel to Windows XP? At first I wanted to have 2 OS on the disk. Without further ado, I then decided to separate myself from XP also. The decisive factor was that everything was on the RC anyway what I wanted, and I really had no compatibility problems. So, too, the data from XP to an external hard disc (Firefox profile with MozBackup , Scores, etc.) and using a partition program, the Windows 7 RC and Windows XP partition away. Then format the unallocated space as NTFS again and was finished my partition for Windows 7 Final!
The install is then very quick. Either you put the 32 - or 64-bit DVD. I opted for the 64-bit version. I have also had the RC anyway and since I already have 4 GB of RAM installed (and over time expand the workplace even want), my 64-bit version is quite right. Compatibility issues I had not said how during the trial period. If you then inserted the CD, you have to choose the language ends up making a few clicks <Next> and after about 20-25 minutes to even on the desktop. The installation was then done so already.
We come to the next part of the setup. Before you can work productively with a system, you should download the required software from the network. For me this means: AIMP, OpenOffice , 7-Zip and Firefox. This brings me to clear first. Then a password manager comes in and drivers for my G15. This is also the only driver that I had to invite. The rest have already installed Windows for me (graphics, sound, mouse, etc.). That's really amazing (and a very big argument for Windows 7, so far as the annoying driver search (especially Apple users), Microsoft has chalked up)! Ultimately, the device is no longer taken as an hour to complete, then my system was already ready to go!
Sure, the decor is really unnecessary and could be omitted, because in principle it is inherently anything, what you want: browser, media player and word processor ( WordPad ). Nevertheless, I will personalize my system a bit, so I have to change some software. What surprised me was the way: It was missing from my browser choice. The IE was installed from the outset and has left me no choice. So basically it's all one-damn me because I know how I install Firefox. But after a long dispute between the EU and Microsoft, I had thought that the thing would be off the table. But as I said: In principle I do not care.
I remembered but still one thing that was missing: a virus scanner and firewall. Kaspersky seems to me after the statements by Eugene Kaspersky is no longer on the board. So I needed something else. I chose the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials . Suffice as the basis of protection and with a bit Grips a no pest comes to the plate. And if so, the MSE should probably catch.
I had to get used to the system not me. I already knew everything from the RC. I was immediately clear that the new Super Bar or Aero Shake and Peek features. The Superbar is super useful. So they replaced the usual taskbar. Program, you can attach to the Superbar (similar to the Quick Launch bar) and then file them. When you open a program, one finds now only the icon on the Superbar. you drive over with the mouse, it is brightly lit, nice.

Another new feature in 7 are the libraries. Using libraries can be summed up as all the locations for music. Have ye your music in 3 different places, so you can specify it in the music library that lists all music tracks. This is very useful, and puts an end to the chaos. However: Now I've found through my space partition strategy and will benefit from this feature that is not likely as strong.
So we come to the preliminary conclusion:
Windows 7 is a very nice Betrieebsystem and has proven to me anyway. Everything works fine and does the look and feel. The speed is also clean. With the release of Vista I have spared the change there and the farewell of my XP. With Windows 7, but you can go safely. This gives a solid operating system.
