What exactly is AMD drag?

The question I asked myself, when I was the new ATI Catalyst driver install was 9.10. So flux to the internet and googled drag times for AMD. One finally ends up on the AMD website , so you can read the following:

AMD & Windows 7

[...]

  • Drag-and-drop transcoding. AMD will be fully supporting the drag and drop transcoding application using ATI Stream technology when Windows 7 releases

[...]

ATI Video Converter

  • ATI Catalyst ™ 7.9 introduces support for the ATI video converter under Windows 7 and Windows 32-bit 7 64-bit
  • [...]
  • Using ATI Stream technology, owners of ATI Radeon ™ HD 4800 Series and ATI Radeon ™ HD 4600 Series of graphics cards can take advantage of this video conversion tool (found in ATI Catalyst ™ Control Center Basic View) to Achieve substantial performance improvements when transcoding video files

AMD drag is nothing more than a conversion function. In Windows 7 you have when you connect a media player the opportunity to videos to the player via drag & drop them to. Here, the file is directly converted to a usable format for the media player. Here, finally, AMD drag comes into play: The video file is not converted by the CPU but the GPU. This makes the Umwandelung much faster.

AMD is dragging all of the graphics card HD 4800, HD 4600 and (probably) HD 5800 series.
