Twitter and the impact of advertising

Today when I checked my e-mails me the message from Biz Stone noticed. Biz Stone is the founder of Twitter team, so it is not very unreasonable that the e-mail has anything to do with Twitter. The key to this e-mail was the Verweiß on new terms of service. Thus, Twitter now has the option open that advertising can be switched within the service. Mind you can, for how (and whether) the advertising is implemented is still open.

Twitter - What are you doing?

Now some will say, of course, "Advertising sucks". Yes, advertising can be annoying. But the fact is that Twitter is currently simply not profitable. Somehow, the server must be funded. And now I am on the Twitter page yet encountered any advertising.

The trouble is that an advertisement on the Twitter Web site would not expect much income. Twitter is popular not for no reason other than micro-blogging services such as Yahoo! Meme . Twitter has a freely available API that allows even without the Twitter home page to send and receive tweets using. Therefore, it is questionable whether an implementation would be useful on the site. This also means, conversely, that could only appear in the advertising tweets. And that would be annoying. I go anyway these spam accounts on the laces and then even "official" advertising? Nevertheless, a different solution to the advertising is not apparent.

Another solution to get money into the coffers would be a kind of premium service. You pay a monthly amount and has advantages over other users. For example, one could make a bigger profile for paying users to provide or facilitate the use of individual backgrounds money donors only. What can Twitter do but in no case is the use of the API exclusively for payers. This would, in my opinion, many people put off again by Twitter. Because then Twitter would be better memes or other services. The API makes the popular 140-character service so popular.

As I said, this is all pure speculation. But money must be pure, that's for sure.
